What Is Derlin Material For Machining?

Delrin, also known as Polyoxymethylene (POM), is a high-performance engineering plastic widely used for CNC machining due to its excellent dimensional stability, low friction, and high mechanical strength. During machining, Delrin maintains tight tolerances and produces clean, consistent features, making it ideal for precision components in automotive, electronics, and industrial applications.

Delrin CNC machined parts offer excellent wear resistance, fatigue resistance, and reliable performance in mechanically demanding environments, especially for moving and load-bearing plastic components.

Derlin parts are also wear-resistant, fatigue-resistant, and chemically inert in most environments.

Types of POM Available for Machining

POM-H (Homopolymer)

Highly crystalline structure, offering higher stiffness, strength, and better machinability than copolymer grades.

Applications: Precision gears, bushings, bearings, mechanical sliders, cam components (non-structural).

POM-C (Copolymer)

Improved chemical resistance and thermal stability with slightly lower stiffness, making it more dimensionally stable in humid or chemically exposed environments.

Applications: Valve components, fluid-handling parts, housings, fittings.

POM-C FDA (Food-Grade)

FDA-compliant copolymer POM with low moisture absorption and good wear resistance.

Applications: Food-processing wear strips, guide rails, rollers, packaging machine components.

POM Reinforced (Glass / Carbon Filled)

Reinforced with glass or carbon fibers for increased stiffness and load-bearing capacity. Machining requires controlled parameters due to higher tool wear.

Applications: High-load gears, structural housings, mechanical support components.

POM ESD (Antistatic)

ESD-safe POM designed to dissipate static electricity while maintaining good machinability.

Applications: Electronic fixtures, semiconductor tooling, cleanroom components.
